Getting to and Navigating Around the Calendar

The Community Arts Cafe online calendar is the most powerful arts calendar in the Triad, but we realize that it may not be easy to use at first. Let us help you understand how to use it to your best advantage.

First of all, to take advantage of our website's full features, you need to Register and Login, just as you already do on sites like Yahoo, eBay, Amazon, etc.

It is easy to get the calendar on our website. Just click on the "Calendar" link on the top of any page.

Navigate through our online calendar just as you would a calendar on your desktop. The calendar link always goes to the current day. Just click on the previous or next day of the week to view other events. If you want to zip ahead to a certain day, you can always click on a specific day in the mini-calendar to the right.

Also notice that if you hover over a date in the small calendar, a list of events for that day appears in a pop-up, allowing you to go to the description of that event.

Our event listings offer the key information about the event with a number or website you can use to get more information. They are usually categorized by the region and type of the event.

Your OWN Calendar

Unlike many other calendars that offer event listings all on a single calendar, the Community Arts Cafe is dedicated to offering your own community a site of its own with its own flavor, color scheme, event listings, feature stories, AND calendar.

We know that if you live in Mount Airy, you may not want to follow events in High Point, and if you live in Burlington, you may not often travel to Winston-Salem. So, when you get a website account for the Community Arts Cafe, you can register just for the editions that you want to follow. At the same time, however, any time you want to see events in a certain region, all you have to do is go to that calendar and you can find the event that is just right for you.

For events so large that they might attract people from all over the Triad, we input those events so they show on ALL calendars -- that way you won't miss an important event you have been waiting for that may be worth the drive!

What makes the Community Arts Cafe online calendar so powerful? Once you create an account and register for only the editions you are interested in, your calendar becomes a much more powerful tool. When viewing any calendar on the website (even the link from the home page), you can simply select which calendar events to show. Just use the drop-down menu near the top left of the page.

You can select "All Editions" here and view the events for all the regions you're following, or select a single calendar to get a closer look for your event planning.

Export, Stay Mobile, Stay Connected

If you are technologically savvy, you can even synchronize the Community Arts Cafe online calendar with your other online calendars (such as Google.com), your Outlook desktop computer calendar, or even the calendar on your phone. Our calendar is compatible with any calendar that supports iCal. Just click the button on the bottom of the page to save the calendar as a file to import elsewhere, or copy and paste the url so you can synch it with another calendar.

Our Site Even offers RSS Feeds

Just like some major news sites such as Google, Yahoo, and CNN, our site offers RSS feeds, a great way to stay in touch with the Triad's biggest art news without even having to go directly to our website. RSS feeds allow you to plug in a special link (called a "feed") into your internet browser, other website (such as MySpace, Yahoo, or a news reader), or your internet-ready cell phone. The Press Releases on our website offer an RSS feed feature. People who want to get the most promotion for their events will ask us to put their events in this special part of our website with a summary of the key information about an event or story. All you need to do is click on the little orange button, and add the feed just as you would a feed from any other site. At this time, RSS feeds are not available directly from the calendar, however, but you can export the calendar using the iCal link, or even access the calendar directly on your cell phone!
